The old church of Panagia tis Eleusa was modest, but the village’s population began to rise during the early years of British rule (from 134 inhabitants in 1881 to 303 inhabitants in 1931). Prior to about 1920, the old church served the requirements of the Community, but as the village grew, it became necessary to expand the existing church to accommodate the villagers. So. In 1930, the new church was established by Metropolitan of Kiti Nikodimos Mylonas.
